The senator of Guadeloupe, Victorin Lurel, presented Tuesday in public session an amendment to the finance bill 2020 (PLF) relating to the rate for investments in favor of hotel renovation in the territory. The aim is to increase this rate of tax exemption, which is today from 45,9% to 53,55% as it is in the overseas departments. For Victorin Lurel it is a question of "repairing an injustice" in the post Irma context.

The senator of Saint-Martin, Guillaume Arnell, defended the amendment by affirming that it was "necessary to mobilize all the means, (…), that all the levers should be activated to impulse a much stronger dynamic" in Saint -Martin. To adopt this amendment would send “a strong signal to the actors”.

The rapporteur of the finance committee gave "an opinion of wisdom" stressing that "no one can deny the real problems of reconstruction in Saint Martin". However, the government gave an unfavorable opinion. "Tax tools must have a structural objective and not a cyclical one," he said.

The amendment was nevertheless adopted by the Senate. (soualigapost.com)
