POLITICS: Team Gibbs can no longer be an elected group on the territorial council

Thursday, July 14, the territorial councilor Mélissa Nicolas-Rembotte announced her resignation from Team Gibbs to its leader, Daniel Gibbs, and to the president of the Collectivité, Louis Mussington. This decision is not without consequences for the political team that she is leaving since it can no longer form a group of elected members within the territorial council.

According to the rules of procedure of the body and in accordance with the general code of local authorities, elected officials can form a group and have material means financed by the community. The budget allocated corresponds to a maximum of 30% of the total amount of allowances paid each year to regional councillors, i.e. an amount of 186 euros. The distribution of this sum had been discussed in the territorial council at the end of May but the deliberation had to be postponed.

To exist, a group must be composed of at least five elected members. This is how Team Gibbs, bringing together Daniel Gibbs, Mélissa Nicolas-Rembotte, Philippe Philidor, Marie-Dominique Ramphort and Alain Gros-Désormeaux, had officially declared itself as a group of elected representatives to the President of the COM, who had received its constitution. The majority group, RSMA, had also formed a group.

However, following the resignation of Mélissa Nicolas-Rembotte, Team Gibbs now only has four members and therefore can no longer be a group of elected officials as defined by the rules of procedure of the territorial council who can claim material means but also human. As a reminder, at the end of May it was also proposed, in addition to material means, to finance the hiring of four employees for the RSMA group and two for Team Gibbs.

At the beginning of the plenary session on Friday, Louis Mussington decided to withdraw from the agenda of Friday's plenary session point number 6 relating to "the constitution and operation of groups of elected officials and human, material and financial resources allocated to the chosen groups" since Team Gibbs is no longer a chosen group.

From now on, only the majority benefits from a group of elected members within the territorial council. However, the 23 territorial advisers have not yet deliberated on whether or not to grant resources. (soualigapost.com)
