Annick Petrus took part in a debate in the Senate on the place of the Overseas Territories in the national maritime strategy. "Overall, I make a paradoxical and worrying observation: our national strategy, although inseparable from the overseas territories, does not associate them with the height of their assets and their potential", agreed the senator from Saint-Martin while recalling that the Overseas territories represent 97% of French maritime space.
“This is why we believe that, for the next strategy being prepared, the method and the orientations will have to be radically reviewed if we want to build the maritime power to which France can legitimately claim,” declared Annick Petrus.
In a report, the senatorial delegation recommends twenty proposals around three major axes: placing the overseas territories at the heart of the national maritime strategy, consolidating France's maritime sovereignty, making maritime strategy the engine of the economic transition of the territories overseas, quoted Annick Petrus.
