Parents, teachers and school life blocked access to the Cité Scolaire yesterday

They demand the end of work in establishments and the delivery of mobile classes.

"Go home there is no class today (note: yesterday morning)". Gathered around dumpsters aligned on the road since 6 am to block access to the school complex, parents, teachers and staff of the school life send the students home this Tuesday, January 8, 2O19. Buses are allowed to pass only to make a U-turn, and most allow students to climb inside before leaving. Lessons will not be provided during the day.

“We were promised six additional rooms (in middle school and four in high school, editor's note) so that the timetables could be improved and the pupils welcomed under better conditions. But at the start of the Christmas holidays it is still not done. The delivery of these mobile classes has been postponed several times. Here we no longer accept, ”says a math teacher from the college.

In addition to the members of the PEP collective (parents, pupils, teachers) and teachers, the school life staff of the college was also mobilized. As the pupils' timetables are spread over six days, school life also works on Saturdays. “The college section accommodates 700 students while it is planned for 400. There are two prefabricated units in the courtyard, which reduces its surface area. This complicates our daily task ”denounces a childcare center. For her, the arrangement of time jobs is almost worse than the rotation system introduced last year: “there are classes that have two hours of lessons on Friday morning and nothing until the end of the day. This promotes absenteeism, congestion around the establishment and problems with drugs and fights. ” Especially since the permanence room is mostly used for other purposes. And to add: "at some point we must say stop".

If the mobile classes are so long awaited, it is mainly so that the timetables arranged at the beginning of the year can be reworked. “We have classes on Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning. We have holes everywhere in our schedule. Sometimes we come to college for only two hours. And other days we have classes from 7 a.m. to 16:30 p.m. We are tired. "Explain Joshua, Illan and Ainhoa, pupils of 6th and 5th.

For the time being, teachers, parents and school staff do not know how long their movement will last. Some would like to continue until Friday, the day of the rector's visit. “We are waiting for the work at the school complex but also in the other establishments to be taken seriously. And not only with three workers on a construction site. We have the impression that the means are not commensurate with the problem, ”they claim. Aware that this does not fall under the same competences, the educational establishments falling under that of the community, they cannot help but compare: "the prefecture was set up in three months and we have been struggling for a year and a half to obtain six rooms. Schools must be a priority for COM and national education ”.

“We have to stop leading us by boat and take into account the interests of the students. The idea is that things are moving this time around. May their actions be in line with what they say, ”they add. “Everyone finds excuses. But who puts the teachers and students in the shoes? ".
