Control operations around schools

A knife, a knuckle-punch, "Afro" combs and drugs seized!

Since the end of 2017, a resurgence of incivility and even offenses around schools has been noted.

In order to quickly stem this phenomenon, the departmental gendarmerie company of Saint-Martin, in collaboration with the school heads and under judicial requisition, set up control operations around the schools.

The various operations were carried out at the college of Mont des Accords, at the vocational college of the Northern Islands in Marigot and at the Robert Weinum school district of La Savane.

These checks mobilized a total of 35 soldiers from different units of the company (including the Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Brigade and the dog handler) and the DOLE 46/7 mobile gendarmerie squadron.

All these control operations took place in a serene atmosphere and generally in the presence of the head of the establishment or his assistant.

They will have to be renewed.

OVERALL RESULTS:

Nearly 500 students and 5 school transportations were checked.

27 “Afro” combs (whose detention is strictly prohibited in these educational establishments) were discovered. The identities of the holders of these prohibited objects have been transmitted to the school heads for internal sanctions.

1 stabbed weapon (12cm blade), a knuckle-knuckle as well as several pointed scissors and screwdrivers were seized.

Several cannabis bags and a joint were discovered in the vicinity.

A minor (not in school in the controlled establishment) was arrested for contempt and rebellion.
