OMNISPORTS: The “Phocéenne” Race to exceed its limits

The squadron of Gendarmerie Mobile 11/6 from Marseille moved to Saint-Martin organized, on Sunday January 8, 2017, its first obstacle course on the beach of Happy Bay.

They were more than sixty civilian and military athletes divided into ten teams to respond to the invitation of the National Gendarmerie to participate in this endurance race calling for agility, strength, balance, speed and good dose of courage and inventiveness.

Coming from both the French part and the Dutch part of the island, the participants met to compete on a land and water course made up of a dozen obstacles.

Freely inspired by the famous timed obstacle course, this type of event is attracting more and more followers in the civilian world (Mud Day, Spartan race, etc.). Helping each other to overcome obstacles, move forward together, surpass oneself in the effort are all values ​​put forward during this sporting event.

At the initiative of this project, the members of the intervention platoon of the Marseille squadron offered a remarkable service by achieving the reference time of the non-classified event. The final classification gives the winner the Dutch Marines team, a second team of gendarmes from the 11/6 mobile gendarmerie squadron and the crossfit sxm (Sint-Maarten) complete the podium.

Many local partners contributed to the organization and smooth running of this event, such as Sportech, Gymfit, Bacchus, Calmos café, Genmat, Le temps des cerises, Coconut Tree's, Balm Tee's, Euronics, Villa Pizza and Sable blanc. All the organizers warmly thank their participation and their support in carrying out this event.
