PINK OCTOBER: More than 300 people at the Pink October Night Walk

0

It was one of the last events organized as part of the month of Pink October, which aims to raise public awareness of the fight against breast cancer and the Maternité Active association can rejoice in the success of its action.

The appointment had been given last Friday in the parking lot of Galisbay at 18 p.m. for a departure at 18:30 p.m. and an escort by the territorial police and the gendarmerie following a route in Marigot and Concordia. The crowd had already gathered well before 18 p.m., there were women, men but also many children. A few faithful four-legged friends even took part in this magnificent night walk where there was a great feeling of solidarity. Each participant was offered a white T-shirt stamped with the famous pink ribbon with Maternité Active's strong slogan printed on the back: "Talking about it is preventing to act in time", underlining the vital importance of screening. Balloons, signs, decorations, pink predominated in the Galisbay car park in support of women fighting breast cancer, highlighting survivors and honoring victims mown down by the disease. Anne-Lise, 57, from Saint-Martin, told us that she had come on a whim: "I had just come back from work when my son told me about this walk and suggested that we go together, I accepted right away, we are going to walk for the cause, it touches me a lot that there are also men and children”. Mado, 9, is a young boy who proudly wears the official march T-shirt even though it is too big for him: "it was mum who asked me if I wanted to walk with her, I I said yes, my grandmother is sick with cancer so we are going to walk to help her heal! The convoy, made up of around 300 people, therefore left in the direction of the Galisbay roundabout to turn on the Holland road, then making a loop in Concordia and returning to the car park via the rue de la République. Passersby did not fail to lend their support to the marchers who chanted “Pink October, Pink October” with communicative energy. The members of the Maternité Active association say they are greatly satisfied with the success of the action and the mobilization of the Saint-Martin population. If the pink march only lasted one evening, don't forget that breast cancer screening is all year round. _VX
