An employee working in the IT department of Gebe, the water and electricity supplier of the Dutch side, died on Friday August 7 from a coronavirus infection. JW was a well-known and highly regarded person in his business. He was under 40.

He had been treated for a few days in the intensive care unit (ICU) of St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) lost his battle with the coronavirus.

GEBE acknowledged the death of an employee and then announced the closure of its offices.

The number of COVID-19-related deaths in St. Maarten increased from 16 to 17.

This new death should encourage the population of our island in its entirety, whether partly French or Dutch, to intensify vigilance and to apply barrier gestures very rigorously. It is about our life and about the future of our island.

As a reminder of barrier gestures:

- WEAR A MASK IN THE PRESENCE OF OTHER PEOPLE (even if you think they are not sick)

- WASH HANDS AND OR USE A HAND SANITIZER

- KEEP A DISTANCE OF AT LEAST ONE METER

- COUGH INTO A TISSUE OR INTO YOUR ELBOW

- USE DISPOSABLE TISSUES AND PUT THEM IN THE TRASH

– GREET WITHOUT SHAKING HANDS

FaxInfo sends its deepest condolences to his family and colleagues at GEBE.
