“Our” seniors honored during Blue Week

Each year, the community of Saint-Martin and its Department for the Autonomy of People organize the "Blue Week" for the elderly and retired. Through a program specially designed to entertain the elderly, the community offers several highlights and activities very appreciated by our elders.

This year, Blue Week is spread over two and a half weeks, from October 08 to 27, to compensate for the elimination of the event last year, the island having been affected by Hurricane Irma just a few days before its programmed organization.

As usual, the opening ceremony took place at the EHPAD Bethany Home in the presence of the Prefect, Sylvie Feucher, the Vice-President in charge of Social Affairs, Annick Pétrus, and Annette Philips, President of EHPAD.

During her opening speech, the Vice-President recalled the urgency of seeing the construction of the medico-social pole which will host several reception structures, including a new nursing home by 2020. The setting up of the project in partnership with the State and the Regional Health Agency is on the right track and should materialize in the coming weeks.

The President of the EHPAD for her part mentioned the urgent need to have the roof of the EHPAD Bethany Home repaired, damaged by the hurricane in September 2017 and whose lessor GIS should start construction very soon.

Many activities planned

Throughout this first week, the elderly in the area were able to take advantage of several activities, such as a wellness workshop, a Yoga workshop, an environment and mastery workshop. energy, a Qi Qong workshop, and physical and sports activities and balanced breakfasts, in partnership with the associations La Couronne, Nature Valley Colombier and Saint-Martin Santé.

There is no doubt that the "elders" of Saint-Martin appreciated the program concocted as part of the "Blue Week".

Our seniors were also able to take advantage of a bus tour of the island on Saturday, October 20, thanks to the involvement of the Department of Autonomy for People in the Community and the EHPAD Bethany Home.

Blue Week will end on Saturday October 27 with the celebration of 10 years of SSIAD and several activities at the Bethany Home retirement home. _AF
