The organizers of this major nautical event in the Caribbean region, which will take place from March 5 to 8, 2020, have decided to open registrations after recently publishing the notice of race.
The Sint Maarten Yacht Club, organizer of the Heineken Regatta, is quite confident regarding the participation of multihulls, because a race is reserved for them from February 14 to 16, 2020, the "Caribbean Multihull Challenge II". The multihulls that will participate in this event as well as the Heineken Regatta will have the opportunity to compete for the “Grand Combination Prize”, which is a Swiss Oris watch worth more than US $ 2000. As these two regattas are organized a few weeks apart, this is the ideal opportunity for multihulls to participate in these two events, says Michele Korteweg, director of the regatta.
The “Sailing Holland”, a Volvo 65 which won third place in the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-2018, as “Team Brunel”, has already confirmed its registration, as has the “Team Extra Djinn”, a Varianta 44 who, after an active season in Holland, secured the top position in their class in the North Sea regatta. The “Touch2Play” is also registered and is considered as a serious customer after having won, during the 2019 edition, the first place of the CSA3. A newcomer to the island's body of water, a 15-meter catamaran from the Dominican Republic, "La Novia", will be one to watch closely, according to the organizers.
