Boating: Caribbean Multihull Challenge, a new regatta organized in Sint-Maarten

The Yacht Club de Sint-Maarten - founder of the Sint-Maarten Heineken Regatta in 1980 - announces the launch of a new regatta on February 8, 9 and 10, 2019. The Caribbean Multihull Challenge Sint-Maarten - open only to multihulls - is called to become a regatta - and a party - unmissable, among the competitions held in the ideal waters where the two parts of the island, Dutch and French bathe.

In the 1950s, Sint-Maarten was the cradle of the multihull in the Caribbean, with designs inspired by Peter Spronk, some of whose boats still sail today. It is in this spirit of innovation that the organizers of this regatta note the rapid growth of the market for modern multihulls and the technological advances which allow these boats to be fast, safe and comfortable. The race in this brand new event will be dynamic, competitive and full of good surprises.

The Caribbean Multihull Challenge / St Maarten will demonstrate all the benefits of sailing on multihulls. “This event will welcome all types of multihulls: Gunboats, trimarans, Lagoons, Leopards, Fountaine Pajot and Spronk. There will even be a “pirate” class so that local rental boats can race too, with their own handicap. The idea is to participate in an innovative regatta and that the sailors take great pleasure in it. Add in post-race events, a small multihull show and more, and you have another success in the Caribbean Racing Circuit! ”Says Petro Jonker, chairman of the race committee.
