While Saint-Martin awaits the return of tourists, other seasonal visitors to the island arrive quietly. Yes, migratory birds travel thousands of kilometers each year to spend the winter on the "Friendly Island". The fifth annual “Migratory Bird Festival” will be the opportunity to celebrate the return of these birds from 9 am to 12 pm, this Saturday, November 25 at Kali's Beach Bar, located in Friar's Bay. The event is free and open to everyone!

" Welcome back "! This is our theme this year, "says Jenn Yerkes, President of the association that organizes the festival, Les Fruits de Mer." We salute the return of the birds, and after the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma, we also salute the return of the island's natural spaces as they recover. ”

The location of the event, at Friar's Bay, offers an excellent view of Guichard Pond. At the Bird Observation Station, festival-goers will be able to watch the migratory birds that live on the pond, and see how the mangroves are recovering. Participants will learn more about native trees and their recovery at the Restoration Station, hosted by EPIC (Environmental Protection in the Caribbean). The “Portable Pond” Discovery Station will offer a close look at the aquatic critters that many migratory birds eat. These tiny and fascinating creatures are another important part of the wetland ecosystem. The Artistic Activities Station of the event will offer playful coloring on the theme of wildlife for children, as well as a special craft project of bird feeders for people of all ages. Adults and children are invited to paint calabash feeders, and bring them home with bird seeds to help the birds throughout the year. The festival is presented this year by the Association "Les Fruits de Mer", a 2017 edition made possible thanks to the loyal sponsors: BirdsCaribbean, BZSE, Caribbean Paddling, Delta Petroleum, Lagoonies Bistro and Bar, Tri-sport and Van Dorp.

The presentation being made, see you Saturday at Friar's Bay! _AF
