DRUG TRAFFIC: The amount of drugs intercepted by the Navy in the Caribbean region continues to increase

0

The Royal Netherlands Navy totaled a record amount of drugs intercepted in the Dutch Caribbean region this year, in collaboration with international partners.

Over the past few weeks, the Dutch Navy has intercepted 4 shipments, representing almost 3 tonnes of seized cocaine.  This brings the total to nearly 35 tons of drugs intercepted in 2022.

During recent operations to combat drug trafficking, a go-fast was spotted several times by maritime patrol aircraft of the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard. To do this, a US Coast Guard helicopter and FRISC speedboats were deployed.  They succeeded in stopping the drug transport.

The suspects were arrested by law enforcement. They were handed over to US authorities for prosecution in the United States. The quantity of drugs intercepted has meanwhile been destroyed.

Team work…

Since mid-October 2022, the Zr.Ms. Holland is the Navy's patrol vessel in the Dutch Caribbean region.  During anti-drug operations, the Dutch ship works closely with the US Coast Guard and the Caribbean region.

The Zr.Ms. Holland has already intercepted nearly 10 tons of drugs in the past two months.

For its part, the Zr.Ms. Friesland managed to prevent almost 4 tons  of cocaine to reach the market, the Zr.Ms. Groningen seizing nearly 21 tons of drugs. _AF
