Ramsar Listed Mullet Pond

0

This is one more step towards the conservation of biodiversity. Mullet Pond was designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance last week. For almost four years, several organizations - St. Maarten Nature Foundation, EPIC, etc. - work together to ensure that this exceptional site is listed as Ramsar. This convention is “an intergovernmental treaty which serves as a framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources”. According to Tadzio Bervoets, manager of the Nature Foundation, “this is an important step for Sint Maarten (…) especially at a time when many of our wetlands are seriously threatened by development”. _EH
