0

Tropical Depression No. 7 reached tropical storm status Wednesday evening at 23 p.m. This phenomenon, located east of the West Indies, is currently moving towards our territories. The passage of its center is planned to the south of the islands of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.

Are expected from this Friday, September 16 in the morning of the first stormy showers with winds blowing at 45 km / h and a rough sea (trough of 2,6 meters).

These phenomena will intensify during the night from Friday to Saturday. A degradation of the weather is, in fact, expected from Friday at the end of the day. Gusts of wind can locally reach 80 km/h in Saint-Martin and 100 km/h in Saint-Barthélemy during thunderstorms. Cumulative rain reaching 50 to 80 mm may be observed throughout the episode. The sea will be very rough, with troughs forecast between 3,5 and 4,5 meters under the effect of an east-northeast then east swell.

Consequently, an evolution of the levels of vigilance has been decided, in anticipation, by Météo France since noon yesterday:

• Switch to yellow vigilance

“Heavy rain – Thunderstorms”

• Switch to yellow vigilance

"Submergence Waves"

• Change to yellow vigilance “Strong winds”
