In the presence of the vice-president of the Community Guillaume Arnell and the director general of the CCISM Maggy Gumbs, the prefect Anne Laubies congratulated last week 34 employees having received the medal of honor of work, at the prefecture.

The Medal of Honor for Work, created in 1886, is not obsolete, on the contrary: it is a pride to receive it. The people rewarded at the prefecture, working for the most part in banks, at Electricité de France and at Générale des Eaux, did not hide their emotion. This distinction emphasizes the length of service of employees in the private sector. During the ceremony, 7 employees obtained the great gold medal (after 40 years of service), 5 the gold medal (after 35 years of service), 10 the vermeil medal (after 30 years of service) and 12 the silver medal (after 20 years of service). “We must remember the dignity that attaches to work and therefore to those who are salaried. The value of work is an essential value in our society (…) work is also the way to find personal balance, professional fulfillment, "said the prefect, adding that the prefectural order dating from the end of July granted the work medal to 34 people. “It is important to salute this working time they have devoted to their society and to the island of Saint-Martin. They contributed through their work to the economic and social development of the island, ”added the prefect. According to the Ministry of Labor, 300.000 to 400.000 labor medals are awarded each year. Medalists are chosen twice a year: January 1 and July 14.
