Literature: A nice poem on our “little pebble”

0

Touched like his comrades by the ravages of Hurricane Irma, Marjorie Montauban Augustin took up his pen to write a nice poem.

A must read!

Saint Martin / Sint-Maarten

Un wonderful little pebble

Pdared on the azure sea

Tand a precious jewel

Din a golden satin case.

Qabout ninety square kilometers

Deliminated by an invisible border.

Une small island, between two shared countries

Din a long peaceful understanding.

Un dream panorama, bordered by beaches,

Iinvites to escape and tranquility:

Ppicturesque ease, pretty shells

Psweet entes, walks on the pier.

Swater feet

Sou the shade of coconut palms

Ou lie on the hot sand

SAll the caresses of the trade winds.

Sur the tam tam of the waves

Dhandle windsurfing boards.

Cbeautiful sunshine

She draws on the horizon on a canvas background.

Locean transformed its charming song

Eyou are taken in the heart of the turmoil:

En as a dawn, a deafening din!

Cthis discordant note created terror.

Lharmony of the beautiful days has disappeared;

Place to voids, to filth

and survival.

Limpostor is revealed

by incongruous scenes.

Proused by a whirlwind of unsatisfied cravings.

Rimpromptu expatriation of climate refugees,

AAllusion to other exoduses with the bitter taste of exile.

Un travel bag full of exotic souvenirs

Ljerky mind, eager heart for a safe haven.

" My island " ! Previous cyclones

ravaged you

Awith courage and dignity,

you knew how to raise your head.

Dthe strong winds really mistreated you

Tu will have to overcome once again

this storm.

Din synchronization with Mother Nature,

Lare stigmata of this scarred body but, invigorated

Taway from the desire to rebuild

Awith the living forces

of your great diversity.
