In addition to monitoring, awareness-raising and scientific monitoring, the Saint-Martin Nature Reserve will focus this year on the feasibility study of the Caribbean biodiversity institute. An innovative project for our territory.

The Nature Reserve team presented its 2016 wishes to the population and its partners on Friday evening in Anse Marcel. During this evening, Nicolas Maslach, director and curator of the reserve, spoke about the organization's flagship project: the Caribbean Biodiversity Institute which should be located in Cul-de-Sac. "In February, the architectural firm will be selected within the framework of a steering committee of the prefecture, which also financially supports the reserve from the start on this feasibility study," indicates Nicolas Maslach. This firm will work for the next eight months on the architectural potential. We will thus refine this project from A to Z. ”Ten architectural firms responded to the call for applications. "This tool for the development and planning of Saint-Martin will have to respond to many shortcomings, particularly in terms of scientific monitoring, university studies and professional training," he explains. The budget for this complex - which will include an auditorium, accommodation, restaurants, shops, tropical gardens and an aquarium - is estimated at nearly 10 million euros. “We must seek investors for the realization of this project. The innovation is that this site will generate revenue ", adds the curator who wants this institute to become the Saint-Martin biodiversity agency" bringing together all the skills relating to sustainable development and the protection of biodiversity in our island ”.
