Europe releases an additional € 70 million for St-Martin

Within the framework of the operational programs for the period 2014-2020, Europe had acted to grant to the territory of Saint-Martin 59 million euros divided into four programs (Feder, FSE, Feader and Feamp) to which it was necessary to add 10 M € as part of the cross-border cooperation operational program. During a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the President of the COM, Daniel Gibbs, explained that the classic structural funds (ERDF, ESF, etc.) which were not yet mobilized will be used for reconstruction projects .

In addition, he announced that Europe had released an additional 80 million from the solidarity fund. These 80 million will be exclusively used to finance reconstruction projects, whether private or public. This is why the President of the COM announces global aid of some 140 million euros from Europe.

In addition, the 10 million euros which provided the cross-border cooperation program for the same period 2014-2020 were also transferred to reconstruction. The projects it had to finance (connection of the sewerage network to the Cole Bay treatment plant, removal of shipwrecks from the lagoon and development of the watershed to prevent flooding in Belle-Plaine) were not abandoned however, says Daniel Gibbs.

The member states of the European Union have yet to validate these decisions. (Source www.soualigapost.com)
