President Daniel Gibbs signed, on Friday, November 22, an agreement with the Prefect Sylvie Feucher and the rector of the Academy of Guadeloupe, Mostafa Fourar, fixing the financing of the construction of a new college of 900 place in Saint- Martin.

The agreement comes to fix the amounts allocated by the State and the Collectivity for this construction of 21M €.

Or 15M € contributed by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Overseas for the construction of the college, 3 million euros contributed by the Ministry of Overseas for the construction of a cyclonic shelter (FEI). Indeed, college 900 will also be a cyclone shelter.

The Community for its part undertakes to provide a participation of 3M € and to bear all taxes and charges of all kinds which are levied on real estate investment operations.

The parties have chosen to make this establishment an “all digital” pilot site. For the President of the Collectivity, "the joint desire was to imagine a modern 900 college, innovative and a pioneer in new technologies".

“I do not hide my determination from you, that of my vice-president Annick Pétrus, and of my entire majority, to see this achievement emerge from the ground before the end of this mandate.

It is a strong commitment in the service of the general interest and of the young generation ”, indicated President Gibbs before thanking all the stakeholders of the project.

College 900 is scheduled to open its doors in September 2022. It will relieve the Robert Weinum School District which currently houses the Lycée and Weinum College and the students of Soualiga College affected by Hurricane Irma.

As a reminder, local authorities have also started the construction of a college 600 in Quartier d'Orléans, for the start of the 2021 school year.
