Hervé Williams school students conquer Fort Louis!

ACS ZEPIN (Cultural and Sports Association - Priority Education Zone of the Northern Islands) organized a cultural visit for CE2 students from Hervé Williams school. An event organized in partnership with the Territorial Archives of Saint-Martin.

As part of the new Cycle 2 programs, students are led to understand the evolution of time and identify major historical periods. Using examples from their immediate environment, they are then led to a wider horizon of the world around them.

Thus, before the long holidays, the pupils of CE2 of the Hervé Williams school set off to discover the history of Fort Louis and the culture of the island in the 19th century.

On this heritage theme, the ACS ZEPIN and the Territorial Archives of the Community were partners in the project. Emphasis was placed on the origin of the construction of the fort, its fortification, its various parts relating the life of the infantrymen of the time.

Accompanied by Xavier Mirre-Minori, President of ACS ZEPIN, their teachers Jessie Alphonse and Martine Ahoura, also members of ACS ZEPIN, the students listened to the guide, Audrey Klaxton from the Territorial Archives. The children were delighted with the research and guessing games and came out culturally enriched. For some of these children from the Concordia district, it was their first visit to Fort de Marigot. A local snack consisting of Journey cake and juice, was offered by ACS ZEPIN to close this outing.

ACS ZEPIN will renew other outings of this kind from next September, to continue to promote culture among the youth of Saint-Martin.
