The 5 projects that the COM will carry out in 2019: zoom on the carbets of Orient Bay

"2019 will be - and I say this with determination - a year of achievements and the realization of our ambitions", Daniel Gibbs repeats during the presentation of his wishes in the neighborhoods. Every day, in Grand Case, Quartier d'Orléans, Marigot and Sandu Ground, he sets out his roadmap for each sector and reveals the projects that the COM certainly intends to carry out this year.

Destroyed by Gonzalo in October 2014, the carbets of the Orient Bay had been rebuilt by the Community for an amount of 3,8 million euros. Completely razed by Irma, these carbets will be reinstalled but under different conditions.

"The Collectivity will not finance the construction of restaurants or shops but will leave this care to restaurateurs and other traders holding a temporary occupation permit (AOT)", she announced. Operators will however be required to comply with specifications imposed by the community. The use of fitted containers will be the rule for the nine restaurants, the four large shops and the four smaller shops.

“Each restaurant will consist of two 20-foot containers arranged at right angles, will have a closed surface of 75 square meters, a covered terrace of the same size and a surface reserved for deckchairs of 75 square meters also. These mobile structures could possibly be transported to a safer place in the event of a cyclonic alert. They will be positioned further back from the sea than the carbets were, which means that the available range will be greater, ”explains the COM.

For its part, the COM will carry out the common parts: pedestrian walkways, electrification, water and sanitation networks, public toilets and public lighting. It will also set up eight kiosks and two water sports, using half-containers it will equip.

To follow in our Monday edition.
