The dock for fishermen could (well) see the light of day

There are projects that it has become difficult to believe although their realization does not seem so complicated. The construction of a landing dock for fishermen in Saint-Martin is one of them.

For several years, elected officials have expressed their desire to provide professional fishermen with a space where they could sell their fish directly to consumers. In the mid-2010s, it was planned to install this wharf on the seafront in Marigot. Then to Quartier d'Orléans. The creation of a fish market was included among the actions to be carried out in 2016 within the framework of the City Contract.

At the end of the 2010s, the project emerges from the drawers, dusted off. It has undergone some modifications, particularly in its location: the landing dock will no longer be in the Quartier d'Orléans but at the Royal Marina in Marigot.

This new project, developed with the support of the prefecture's services (sea department), was presented in August 2018 to seafaring professionals and traders at Marina Royale and then validated by the executive council in March 2019.

But two years later, the site has still not started. However, it would be on the verge of being. Indeed, the COM has just launched a contract notice for the project management for the creation of a seafood landing point. In other words, it is looking for a service provider for the preparation of preliminary studies, project, to assist it in consulting companies, awarding works contracts, and carrying out and receiving these works.

If this contract does not prove to be unsuccessful (if the COM receives applications), we can hope for a start of work at the end of 2021, at the beginning of 2022. Better late than never. (soualigapost.com)
