Wearing a mask will be made compulsory on all flights operated by Air France from May 11, 2020

In accordance with the French instructions to wear a mandatory mask in transport, Air France will ask its customers to wear a mask throughout their journey from May 11, 2020.

Customers will be notified of this obligation on all communication channels (email, sms, websites) before their departure and invited to bring one or more masks for their trip.

This measure complements the system put in place by Air France and its partners to respond to the COVID-19 health crisis and including in particular:

  • The compulsory wearing of a mask for all crew members and agents in contact with customers,
  • The development of the customer journey on the ground with the application of physical distancing throughout the journey through the airport and the installation, whenever possible, of Plexiglas protections at airports.
  • The implementation of physical distancing on board whenever possible. On most flights, the current low occupancy rates allow space between customers. In cases where this is not possible, the wearing of a mask by all passengers and by the crew guarantees adequate health protection.
  • Strengthening of daily aircraft cleaning procedures, with the disinfection of all surfaces in contact with customers such as armrests, tablets or screens,
  • The implementation of a specific procedure for disinfection of periodic aircraft by spraying an approved virucidal product whose duration of effectiveness is established for ten days,
  • Adaptation of on-board service to limit interactions between customers and crew members. On domestic flights and short flights within Europe, drinks and catering services are suspended. For long-haul flights, cabin service is limited and wrapped or individually wrapped products are preferred.

In addition, the air in the cabin is renewed every 3 minutes. Air France's aircraft recycling system is equipped with “High Efficiency Particulate Air” filters or HEPA filters, identical to those used in operating theaters. These filters remove over 99,99% of the smallest viruses, including those up to 0,01 micrometers in size, ensuring cabin air compliance with quality standards. Coronavirus-like viruses, ranging in size from 0,08 to 0,16 micrometers, are filtered by HEPA filters.
