Causeway Bridge open to motorized traffic

The Causeway Bridge was reopened to motorized traffic on Thursday afternoon, but will remain closed to boat traffic.

Technicians, including a software engineer from bridge manufacturer Hollandia, are due to arrive on the island at the end of the week and will work throughout the weekend with the help of fully trained staff from the Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority (SLAC ).
On Monday, the technical problem appeared when the bridge was open to maritime traffic. During the process of closing the bridge, the system malfunctioned, possibly due to a power grid failure.
Technicians worked for several days troubleshooting the various phases of the sensors and then made a modification to perform the first-ever manual closing of the bridge, which took several hours, and have since made further adjustments to shorten that time.
SLAC would like to thank Hollandia's remote specialists, supported by the local technical teams of NV GEBE, Electrec, as well as Port St. Maarten group staff, for the work done so far in finding a solution to the problem.
SLAC will keep the maritime community informed of any updates.
