The cleaning of Sargassum algae in Cul-de-Sac continues!

0

The company responsible for collecting Sargassum algae in the Cul-de-Sac pier area cleaned the site from Monday 3 May to Saturday 8 May inclusive.

Algae continue to wash up every day on the beaches of the northeast coast. The company  is back at work since yesterday on the area invaded by these famous brown algae. 800 tonnes have already been collected.

For the next two months, the threat will come more from the Guyana current than from the Atlantic, according to the DEAL (Department of the Environment, Planning and Housing). The algae arriving from the east should be less important in the coming months.

On the other hand, the equatorial zone, at the exit of the Amazon, is more and more loaded and the rafts penetrate the current of the Guyanas.

This current is currently very strong and sends the Sargassum to the gates of the Antillean archipelago.  _AF
