The Government is increasing financial support for overseas students

The financial cost of mobility is particularly high for overseas students, due to air transport costs, and can constitute an obstacle to pursuing studies in France. Removing this obstacle by improving support for overseas students is a government priority.

Thus, as of the 2022-2023 academic year, financial support will be increased for students on long-distance mobility, in particular overseas students, faced with particularly high transport costs and forced to stay for a longer period of time. period, away from their family home.

As part of the examination of the right to scholarships based on social criteria, charge points are awarded to increase the income ceilings determining eligibility. Currently, up to two charge points can be allocated for students carrying out their studies more than 250 kilometers from their home.

Starting next school year, will be awarded:

• 3 charging points (in total) for mobility between 3500 and 13 kilometers (especially for students from Reunion, Mayotte, Guyana, Martinique, and Guadeloupe traveling in France),

• 4 points (in total) for mobility from 13 kilometers (in particular for students from New Caledonia and French Polynesia on mobility in France),

The allocation of these charge points will increase the amount of scholarships for many mobile students who already have scholarships, but also make new students eligible for scholarships. For the latter, the gain in purchasing power will be particularly high with the exemption from the student life and campus contribution (currently €92) and registration fees (around €200 on average) as well as access to the €1 meal price in university restaurants and to aid related to scholarships (aid for merit, Master's mobility, international mobility).

A “master” mobility aid of €1000 was created at the start of the 2017 academic year to support scholarship students enrolled in the first year of their master’s degree in an academic region different from that in which they obtained their bachelor’s degree. Similarly, since 2018, a “Parcoursup” mobility aid of €500 has been introduced for the benefit of high school students on scholarships carrying out mobility outside their academy of residence upon entering higher education.

This measure is in addition to the measures already dedicated to overseas students on mobility in France: “master” mobility aid of €1000, “Parcoursup” mobility aid, exceptional aid of €200 during the first confinement.
