The green monkeys, invasive species, are more and more numerous in Saint-Martin in particular in Concordia, Hope Estate and Rambaud. The two parts of the island have decided to tackle this problem.
The government of Sint Maarten has asked the Nature Reserve of Saint-Martin for cross-border collaboration for the management of their population, reports the last newspaper of the reserve. Several decisions were taken during working meetings, including their inventory and the implementation of location monitoring. "The possibility of regulating their birth rate has been considered, but not their eradication", specifies the reserve, adding that "this cross-border initiative organized around the green monkey could be the very first collaboration in a series aimed at the establishment of better management of invasive species on our island ”.
