La Poste diversifies its activity in Saint-Martin

Around 10 letters and 000 parcels are distributed every day by La Poste agents in the French part of the island. “The number of letters has been falling for several years because people are receiving fewer and fewer letters,” comments Frédéric Leblanc, the new mail establishment director. The number of letters sent is also decreasing; it has been divided by four in recent years. “Today, we distribute around 2 letters a day,” says the director. “On the other hand, the number of packages to be processed is on the rise because more and more people are ordering online,” he explains.

In this context, La Poste is reorganizing and diversifying its activities: today it is able to distribute products other than letters and parcels. “Recently, on behalf of the State, we distributed 8 masks,” says Frédéric Leblanc. “In other territories, we provide a home delivery service. We deliver meals prepared in central kitchens, etc. to schools. », He adds. In Saint-Martin, these services are little known; some 895 products are delivered daily.

  The journey of a letter

A letter sent from mainland France at the normal rate is sent by plane (Air France) to Saint-Martin via Juliana. The same is true for parcels posted at priority rate. Folders and parcels sent in economy mode are transported by boat to Guadeloupe then shipped by plane to Grand Case.

From Saint-Martin, letters posted in French part are grouped together at the sorting center in Concordia then sent from Grand Case in Guadeloupe from where they are forwarded to the mainland and other destinations. The envelopes to Saint-Martin remain processed on Saint-Martin. (soualigapost.com)

No proof of course, but 150 € disappeared from the envelope of a letter sent to a friend in metropolitan France… one more example, if necessary, that our postmen are thieves.
