Kite-foil: Only three months before the start of the Caribbean Foil Championship

0

On February 21, 22 and 23, 2020, the Caribbean Foil Championship will take place at Orient Bay. The objective of this championship is to promote interest, enthusiasm and commitment in this sport.

A kite-foil is a kite-surf board fitted with a hydrofoil, which allows, with speed, to rise above the water. Thanks to this speed and the lift on the water, the foil makes the kiter take off and gives it a very important speed which can be around 35 knots.

The Caribbean Foiling Championship is not only for top athletes, it is also open to a wide range of participants and, in particular, is intended to attract young people to this discipline. Also, in order to encourage the participation of young people from Saint-Martin, the organization has joined forces with the “Wind Adventures” kite-surfing school in Orient Bay. However, before starting to foil, a good understanding of kite-surfing is necessary, and as there are only a handful of young kite-surfers on the whole island, the transition to foil is somewhat difficult. However, "Wind Adventures" tries to develop a new generation of kite-foilers by teaching young people to sail, then to practice kite-surf and finally the foil. According to Maxim van den Pol, initiator of the Inter Caribbean Championship, this first competition will be the start of a benchmark meeting in the Caribbean. The Foil Championship can be followed on Facebook and Instagram, or live in Orient Bay on February 21, 22 and 23, 2020._RM
