JUSTICE: Restaurant owner sentenced for covert work

At the end of 2020, a restaurant in Grand Case was checked by the authorities. Five men and women work there without an employment contract, are paid in cash and do not receive payslips. An investigation is opened at the end of which the boss and the company are accused of concealed work for the period from March 1 to 25, 2021.

The manager is offered an appearance on prior acknowledgment of guilt. He was thus summoned on September 27. The deputy prosecutor demanded fines against the manager and the company. He also asked that the judgment be published in the press. With his lawyer, the boss asked for a cooling-off period, which was granted.

The case returned to Monday's hearing. In court, the boss admitted that he had not made an employment contract. He justified it by the fact that "they were extras" that did not work every day. He affirmed that today all of its (renewed) staff are declared, benefit from an employment contract of 22 hours per week.

The court confirmed the penalties requested by the prosecution: a fine of 1 euros including 500 euros suspended against the boss and a fine of 1 euros including 000 euros suspended against the company. The judgment must also be published in two local newspapers at the expense of the manager. (soualigapost.com)
