A seventy-one-year-old man, NC, was tried this morning by the Saint-Martin criminal court for sexual assault on minors. He was sentenced to six years in prison, including a three-year probation including the obligation to receive treatment. A warrant of committal was also issued against him, he was transferred in the afternoon to Basse-Terre prison. He faced a ten-year sentence.

He was initially prosecuted for rape but the facts were reclassified as sexual assault. This is why he appeared before the court of Saint-Martin and not before the Assize Court of Guadeloupe where he incurred a sentence of twenty in prison.

He is accused of two assaults on two young girls. The case erupted in 2016 when one of the teenage girls went to the hospital to have an abortion. His young age, fourteen at the time, challenged the staff of the hospital center. This is how a judicial investigation was opened to understand the circumstances in which she became pregnant.

NC was placed in pre-trial detention and accused.

At the same time, another young girl admitted to having been assaulted by the same man two years earlier.

The case was examined this morning behind closed doors by the court. The hearing lasted four hours in the presence of the defendant, one of the victims accompanied by his mother. Both parties were assisted by a lawyer. The prosecution had requested a six-year prison sentence and a committal warrant.
