JUSTICE: "I don't want to die in Saint-Barth"

He was born in Guadeloupe, now lives in Saint-Martin and worked as a mason in Saint-Barth. YB, aged 34, was presented for immediate appearance Wednesday morning in front of the local court for acts of violence with weapons committed at the end of June.

In Saint-Barth, he was accommodated by his employer with his colleagues in a villa. On June 29, he accuses them of having stolen his cell phone, his credit card and 400 euros in cash. He calls the gendarmes because they threaten him with a saber and a rifle before leaving by car.

On their arrival, the gendarmes are greeted by YB who is agitated. He explains what happened. A few minutes later, the colleagues return. The vehicle was searched and no weapon was found on board. The soldiers also searched YB's room and discovered there on the bed a bag in which was linen as well as the so-called stolen belongings with the exception of the 400 euros. A kitchen knife is also found.

YB is taken into custody. He denies the facts. He maintains his version at the bar of the court. "I was angry because they had taken my things from me," he repeats. He admits, however, that he hit one of his colleagues who wanted to hit him with the saber. "Weren't you afraid to hit him when he had a sword?" Asks the judge.

“No… but I had to defend myself! My life was in danger!… I don't want to die in Saint-Barth, ”he continues, stressing also that he did not use the knife found in his belongings.

As part of the investigation, YB was the subject of a psychological and psychiatric expertise. The doctor said he was impulsive and in denial.

The prosecution requested a one-year prison sentence including six months with a probationary suspension of two years including the obligation of care, work, the prohibition to come into contact with the victims. A ban on holding a weapon for five years has also been requested.

After deliberation, the court pronounced a sentence in accordance with the requisitions except for the third obligation, the court ordered that YB not go to Saint-Barth. (soualigapost.com)
