ML, a citizen of Sint Maarten, aged 47, has been imprisoned at the Basse-Terre remand center from September 2020 until next year. Last Thursday he saw his stay in prison extended by eight months after being convicted of violence committed with an iron bar by the local court of Saint-Martin before which he appeared by videoconference.

The alleged facts took place in August in 2020. The firefighters then the gendarmes arrive in the Agrément district following the altercation between two men, one of them has two injuries of 2 and 8 centimeters to the head. A young woman spontaneously explains to the rescuers that ML attacked her friend, LP. “ML came in from behind and hit LP twice on the head,” she said.

Arrested and placed in police custody, ML gives another version of the facts. He says he was talking to LP when the latter "slapped him in the face and told him not to look at his girlfriend like that". "I felt my life in danger because he took a hammer," he told the court. The deputy prosecutor requested ten months in prison and a committal warrant. The court handed down an eight-month sentence and a committal warrant.

The victim and her friend were not present at the hearing because they are also imprisoned in Guadeloupe for other facts.
