World Diabetes Day: November 14: several actions will be carried out by Saint-Martin Santé

0

Since its creation in 1991, World Diabetes Day, organized every November 14, has been the symbol of collective mobilization. Its objective: to raise awareness of diabetes, its management and above all the means to prevent it.

For each edition, local associations organize events, meetings, conferences, stands to disseminate information and have risk test questionnaires completed.

These are times of friendly discussion and awareness of prevention, to live better, eat better, move more!

As in previous years, Saint-Martin Santé will be in the field and will organize awareness-raising, prevention, information and screening actions for diabetes. In Saint-Martin, diabetes affects at least one in two families, ”recalls Chantale Thibaut, president of Saint-Martin Santé.

With 400 million people with diabetes worldwide, it is a real pandemic and a major public health issue. Information, prevention, care and support for patients are essential aspects to reduce the disease.

Globally, 1 in 2 people have diabetes without knowing it.

Healthcare professionals and the general public must be aware of the importance of prevention to identify risks as soon as possible, to prevent and control them.

  Insulin is 100 years old

The year 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin by researchers Frederick Banting and Charles Best at the University of Toronto.

The first protein whose chemical structure has been fully determined and reproduced through genetic engineering, insulin has saved the lives of hundreds of millions of people with diabetes. Insulin has therefore established itself as an essential means of combating diabetes and research is now continuing around this protein to continue to improve the living conditions of people with diabetes. _AF
