Youth: ways to better understand it

0

The members of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of Saint-Martin (CESC) debated last week on the theme of Saint Martin's youth. The problems of the territory were approached “without language of wood” at the request of the president Georges Gumbs.

“The CESC was asked by the prefect to carry out a study on youth entitled“ The place of the young in Saint-Martin society, ”said Georges Gumbs in the preamble. Youth does not take its place in this society, especially at the professional level. The youth are not trained, because we do not train them, the youth are looking for themselves, they constitute the poor population of this country, it is a disaster. ” Numerous questions have been raised “to give clues to the Territorial Council. We must do everything to understand our youth ”, underlines the president.

Franck Viotty - Member of the First College
(community economic activities)

“Does the training offered or given to us correspond to the needs of the person, to the economic possibilities of the moment? (…). Youth is also the future. Are the means that we are going to adopt within the reach of those who are supposed to put them in place? ”

Pierre Aliotti - Member of the Second College
(social and cultural activities).

“We have had almost 20 births a year for 1000 years. That means that 20 years later, we should find 1000 jobs per year: we all know, this is not possible. (…). There is a tradition here, it is to leave, because the country does not give food to all its children. ”

Angel Dormoy - Member of the First College
(community economic activities)

“If we had fewer young people who have children, we wouldn't have as many difficulties today. We are exceeding the normal fertility rate. ”
