From May 9 to 14, Martinique hosted the Jeux des Iles. A large-scale sporting event bringing together more than 500 athletes from the different islands of Europe.
Gymnastics was represented by the four best gymnasts from our island (3 gymnasts from the Saint-Martin Gym Club and 1 gymnast (NIA gym): Afiya Denis, Zoe Van Zadheloff, Jade Thiriet and Célia Daniel Williams.
On Thursday, May 11, the competition took place at the Louis Achille stadium in a warm atmosphere, 4 teams matched.
Corsica won first place, followed by team 1 from Martinique and team 2 from Martinique, Saint-Martin winning a very nice 3rd place.
The delegation of Saint-Martin distinguished itself with brio by offering a beautiful sporting image during this competition. Indeed, our delegation performs only 4 hours of gym per week against 17 hours for the other teams. Suffice to say that it is difficult to complete a movement with 8 to 9 elements of the FIG Junior code (International Code of Gymnastics), but our Saint-Martinists have done it! And this will to believe in it allowed two young Saint-Martin to climb to 4th place in the apparatus final (Afiya DENIS, at the Bar, Club de Gym SXM and Zoe Van Zadheloff, at la Poutre, NIA GYM) .
