CTOS strike: Alternative measures put in place by the Collectivity

0

Following the strike action by part of the agents of the Caisse Territoriale des Œuvres Scolaires (CTOS) and the Collectivity, which for the past 46 days has been disrupting the school canteen and extracurricular reception, the Collectivity and the CTOS have decided to take measures to compensate for the lack of public service.

Thus, the CTOS requested the assistance of several associations to ensure the supervision of the students and the distribution of meals during the meridian break. This measure has been in effect since Monday, March 18, 2019. Children enrolled in school meals will therefore be able to benefit from a meal and a reception, as of Monday.

Concerned about this situation which affects the students, their families, the school community and the functioning of the institutions, and following strong demand from many parents, the community has set up this temporary associative partnership. Ultimately, the after-school service of CTOS will be outsourced, and the partnership with associations will be made permanent, as was already the case in the past. It will be a question of welcoming the children during the meridian break, but also of ensuring educational and sporting activities in extracurricular time.

At the request of certain strikers, a delegation of elected officials led by 1st Vice-President Valérie Damaseau, held an informal information meeting, Saturday March 16 at 16 p.m., in the meeting room of district council no. 1 , the objective being to be able to discuss the current crisis, answer their questions, explain the budgetary difficulties that prevent any recruitment and discuss some of the points of the memorandum of understanding submitted by the union organization.

The elected officials asked the strikers to free access to the central kitchen to allow non-strikers to access their work station to prepare meals, from Monday morning. The primary need after 46 days of strike is to make school catering work and allow schools to return to normal.
