Great Salt Pond: a worrying situation

The Nature Foundation, which is concerned about the situation at Great Salt Pond, conducted a four-month pilot study. The ecological situation of the pond has deteriorated. Chemicals escaping from the landfill - located in the middle of the pond - and the influx of untreated sewage are compromising water quality, the foundation explains. And the burning of waste does not help with toxic fumes. The foundation's report underlines the importance of all parties working together to find solutions. Among the recommendations, local communities could appoint a leader in sustainable development. As for the government, it should carry out serious assessments of environmental risks.
