Grand Etang: a new raft for terns

You may have noticed it in Terres Basses: a wooden raft intended for small terns was recently built on the Grand Etang by the Nature Reserve of Saint-Martin. This device - designed by Caroline Fleury, researcher in terrestrial and lake environments - will allow these birds to rest in peace, and to build their nests. “The idea is of course to protect this migratory bird, a species with a conservation status of“ concern ”at the global level and“ vulnerable ”at the local level. Very sensitive to disturbances, the small tern nests at the edge of ponds, on the sand ”, according to the latest edition of the Journal de la Réserve which has just been published. Note that the team counted more than 75 terns on this site. _EH
