The best player in Saint Martin for 20 years, Howard Hobgood, won the 24th St-Maarten Open on Sunday in the champion category. This is his 9th victory in 19 participations. Howard hit hard on Saturday with a score of 70 on a course burned by the sun. His first pursuer, Pierre Garcia scored 72 and Scott Delong, the winner of the 2015 edition, returned a card of 73. The second round on Sunday looked exciting. Howard improved his score from the previous day by playing one under par (2) and 69 in total. Scott Delong finished 139nd with a total of 2 and Pierre (only 144 years old!) 13rd with 3. No doubt the victory will belong to Pierre in other editions.
In the “Men” category 1st series, Clarence Derby won ahead of A.Haillant and J.Haillant (Tamarins). K. Paterson (SMGA) wins net.
In Cat. “Male” 2nd series, Louis Louchet (Tamarins) wins ahead of Mac Van Iersel (SMGA). Enzo Marzi (Tamarins) wins in net.
In cat. “Dame” Joanne Delay (St-Kitts) wins in rough. Manon Tortelier (Tamarins) wins net. Danielle Bedu wins net 2nd series.
In “Seniors” 1st net series, victory for Didier Kerfourn (Tamarins). In “Super Seniors” François Anton wins net.
A great harvest for the Tamarins again this year.
The awards ceremony followed by a large raffle took place on Sunday evening at the Sky Beach around a nice buffet.
Like every year a very successful Open. Part of the profits will be donated to associations like “No Kidding with Our Kids Foundation”, “LAB Sports Academy”, “Junior Golf Foundation of St. Maarten”…
