GOLF / OPEN DE FRANCE: Noren winner by default

0

The course of the National Golf "Albatros" near Paris which will host the famous Ryder Cup on September 28, 29 and 30, has further enhanced its reputation this weekend as "one of the most difficult in the world" during the 102nd Open of France.

This year the young prodigies Justin Thomas (USA 2nd worldwide) and Jon Rahm (Spain 5th worldwide) came to test this dreaded monster, 2 and a half months before the Ryder Cup, to the delight of golf enthusiasts. And it is an unknown at this level, the young and frail Swede of 21 years, Marcus Kinhult, who surprised everyone with a score of -10 after 3 days and 2 strokes ahead of his first pursuer.

Unfortunately on Sunday during the last lap, he made a fatal error with a triple bogey at 4 from which he was not recovering. The fault was a second beginner's stroke (wood 2 in the first rough when the ball was under the level of very thick grass !!), rare error at this level. All the other players close to the lead, Rahm, Suri, Wood also cracked on the last holes and left Alex Noren, another Swedish much more seasoned, to win the event with a final score of -3 over the 7 days.

To Faxinfo who asked him at a press conference what his goals were that very morning with 7 shots behind the leader, he replied that he thought he would have to play -8 to fight for victory. In fact -4 was enough for him to win.

MOLINARI WINS FINALLY ON THE PGA TOUR

A little later in the day, the Italian Francesco Molinari won his first tournament on the formidable American circuit, the Quicken Loans, by a score of -21 with 8 strokes ahead of the second !! Molinari and Noren, no doubt, will be two strong pillars of the European Ryder Cup team, which will have 12 players but probably no French, Alex Levy the French No.1 having missed his French Open 2018. Alone. a return to real form this summer could get him into the squad.

Editor's note: How do Sweden and Italy, small golfing nations like France, come out with so many champions? Maybe one day we will have the recipe. Fortunately in football, we are not too bad in general. Alleeeez les Bleus !!  _AH
