Gendarmerie: The gendarmes of Saint-Martin pay tribute to their brothers in arms who died in the exercise of their functions

A ceremony was held on Monday, December 28, at the barracks of the Gendarmerie de la Savane, in tribute to Lieutenant, Cyrille Morel, Warrant Officer, Rémi Dupuis and Brigadier, Arno Mavel, who gave their lives to carry rescue a woman victim of domestic violence, last week, during an intervention in Saint-Just (Puy-de-Dôme).

A minute of silence was observed, before the national anthem sounded, to follow the speech made by the Secretary General of the Prefecture, Mikaël Doré, in the presence of the President of the community, Daniel Gibbs, the commander of the company of the Northern Islands gendarmerie, Stephan Basso and civil and military authorities.

Lieutenant Cyrille Morel, 45, a gendarme for over 20 years, and native of Roanne, was married and father of two children. Warrant Officer Rémi Dupuis, 37, from Martigues (Bouches-du-Rhône), and gendarme since 2007, had just been trained in the management of domestic violence. Brigadier Arno Mavel, 21, had just been admitted to the gendarmerie non-commissioned officer competition, and had joined the brigade in 2018 for his first posting.

The three soldiers were awarded the Legion of Honor posthumously. They also received the medal of the national gendarmerie with bronze palms and internal security level gold.

Arno Mavel and Rémi Dupuis were also decorated with the military medal of the Order of Merit, Cyrille Morel having received it during his lifetime. _AF
