The epidemiological situation is not alarming for gastroenteritis in the Northern Islands, according to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS).
In Saint-Martin, the weekly number of consultations for this infection of the digestive system, caused mainly by a virus, is at the level of the maximum values expected since week 45, without epidemic start, according to the institute. In Saint-Barthélemy, since weeks 46 and 47, consultations have also reached the level of the maximum expected values.
Washing your hands, at least 15 seconds, is essential to avoid this stubborn virus: it survives at least 8 hours on inert surfaces and sometimes up to seven days, according to the National Institute for Prevention and Education for health (INPES). The disease lasts on average from 2 to 5 days. After healing, you can remain contagious for up to 3 days.
