Sixty runners started yesterday morning “Back to school strides”, organized by the Avenir Sportif Club de Saint-Martin. A 15th edition which saw the unquestionable victory of Yohan Baert.

All the bitumen regulars were present, from 7 am, in Galisbay to do battle on the 5 km route planned in the streets of Marigot.

Open to licensees and unlicensed, the race, as its name suggests, announces the start of the new school year in Saint-Martin.

"It is above all an opportunity for the runners to get back on their legs, to find good physical sensations," said Patrick Trival, president of the Avenir Sportif Club de Saint-Martin.

If some preferred to run at their own pace, Yohan Baert showed on the other hand that he was already sharp at the start of the season. The member of the “SXM Blue Riders” dominated the race from start to finish. He finished the race in 18'33 '', more than 30 seconds ahead of his runner-up, Fabrice Arnaud (19'09 ""), Alain Boucaud finishing on the third step of the podium in 19'28 "".

Among women, the victory went to Sarah Célestine. The representative of the "Intergeneration Runners" club covered the 5 km in 23'51 '' in front of Félicia Paines 23'56 '' and Romane Tschirhart 24'05 ''.

The next meeting for the youngest is set for November 22 for the cross organized by the Avenir Sportif Club._AF

The reactions :

• Yohan Baert (winner in men):

“I am satisfied with my first race at Saint-Martin. I was a little worried about the heat but ultimately everything went well. I stayed in the lead before placing an acceleration in the 2nd km. I found myself alone in front and I continued to print a sustained rhythm ”.

• Sarah Celestine (winner in women)

“Like many people, it was my first comeback race. On arrival, I am satisfied with my time. Certainly, I can do better, but we must not skip the steps. For now, I prefer to devote myself to training. The results will follow thereafter ”.
