Beekeeping training

0

Initially scheduled for November, the training organized by the association of beekeepers of Saint-Martin (AAPISM) has been postponed for health reasons due to the global pandemic. The new dates are now known.

This is the second time on the island of Saint-Martin that such training has been offered. The civil agricultural exploitation company Ô Miel de Guadeloupe has agreed to make the trip to put on the role of host. It will be a two-step training, with two different modules. The first module of two and a half days will focus on initiation (today's beekeeping, equipment and protection, colony development, colony maintenance, recovery of a wild swarm, problems health, harvesting and packaging) when the second will be dedicated to improvement (rearing of the queen, multiplication of colonies, nutritional intake, health management, mass selection, valorization of honey and other hive products ). The initiation session will take place from Monday January 24th to Wednesday January 26th, the improvement will take place from Wednesday January 26th afternoon to Friday January 28th. The participation of the SCEA Ô Miel in this double event is not insignificant. Gold medalist at the agricultural competition at the Paris International Agricultural Show in 2014 and 2015 in the honey and mead section, Benoit Foucan Perafide, manager of Ô Miel, which he founded in 2008 with three other partners, has also received, in Paris, the Prix d'Excellence du Concours général agricole in 2016 from the hands of the Minister of Agriculture at the time, Stéphane Le Foll. With an undeniable experience in the field, the SCEA Ô Miel will share its knowledge with the participants during this training where all the material will be provided. At the end of this, they will also leave with their personal hive, graciously offered by the association which makes this possible thanks to subsidies allocated by the Collectivity of Saint-Martin. Training in beekeeping will first take place at the Maison de Services Au Public (MSAP) in Quartier d'Orléans for the theoretical phase and in the field with Dorvan Coks, president of the Association des Apiculteurs de Saint-Martin for the practical side. Given the many benefits of the hive and honey for health and the importance of the presence of sustained beekeeping in the territory, this training is not to be missed. _VX
