Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Cuba and Haiti, as many islands hit by hurricanes last September. Four months later, the emergency is not over, reconstruction is starting slowly and the West Indian populations still need support.

4 months of action in the West Indies: more than 10 people directly helped

Out of the 13 million euros collected thanks to the generosity of donors, the volunteer committee of the Fondation de France has already committed 4,7 million euros. 26 projects were supported to help families, revive the economy, repair houses and implement cultural and educational actions:

- emergency aid and social aid (€ 1,3 million)

In addition to support actions for disaster victims such as those of the Saint-Martin association Trait d'Union, the Fondation de France supports the prevention and digital management of natural disasters: the Hackers against natural disasters (HAND) association "techies" to the use of radios and the internet when telecommunications systems are damaged by a hurricane. The Fondation de France also continues to support the association of firefighters Groupe Secours Catastrophe Français (GSCF) to put out the water of the homes of a hundred families.

- economic recovery (2 M €)

The revival of economic activity should enable residents to find the means to provide for themselves. In addition to the 110 small businesses already supported within the framework of the project launched with Initiative Saint-Martin Active, around a hundred others will be helped from January. In Saint-Martin, the association of fishermen and fishermen is supported for the purchase of equipment and the resumption of activity of fifteen professionals. Because northern Haiti was also affected by the hurricane.
