Parties not allowed on the beaches in Saint-Martin: be careful with the implementation of more restrictive measures!

“The Prefecture was informed this weekend that several unauthorized parties were held on the beaches of Saint-Martin, going so far as to bring together more than a hundred people.

These events favor the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic and the emergence of clusters. In the health context that we know, the prefecture indicates that these behaviors are dangerous and not very responsible towards the rest of the population, respectful of barrier gestures ”, underlines the Prefecture in a press release.

The measures taken in Metropolitan France (curfew in particular) are based on the increase in the number of cases and the hospital capacity. “In Saint-Martin, the hospital is under tension. The number of people hospitalized is increasing every week, on October 18 there were still 112 active cases and 12 people hospitalized, including 6 in intensive care at hospitals in Guadeloupe and Martinique. Last week 6 people had to be evacuated for a health emergency ”, specifies the Prefecture.

“It is important to know that behaviors, like those we experienced this weekend insofar as they would result in a deterioration of the sanitary situation on the island, could require the implementation of more restrictive measures.

The effort requested by the State (wearing a mask, social distancing, respecting barrier gestures, avoiding gatherings of more than 6 people, limiting festive events) is the only way to effectively fight the virus. These measures must be taken seriously, ”continues the prefecture, which“ calls for the responsibility of everyone ”.
