NATIONAL DAY: Back to the July 14 festivities

Marigot was indeed celebrating this Thursday, July 14. The program concocted by the services of the Collectivity was rich, varied and appreciated by young and old alike. Throwback to this day of celebration.

As usual, the morning was devoted to official celebrations, starting with the ecumenical ceremony in the Catholic Church of Marigot at 9 am. The July 14 parade took place on rue de la République at 10:15 a.m. The sudden torrents of rain did not slow down the public or the participants, adding a solemn side to the official parade. The civil and military authorities then went to the Hôtel de la Collectivité for the laying of wreaths at the war memorial, in the presence of Governor Eugène Holiday and representatives of the government of Sint Maarten. Following the traditional parade of law enforcement and civil security, Prefect Vincent Berton presented several medals for acts of courage and dedication as well as letters of congratulations.

Three local personalities also received the Collectivité's medal from the hands of its president, Louis Mussington. The latter awarded this recognition prize to three civil society actors involved in the community: the artist Louinel Telisma AKA Skelet was honored for his musical career with his group Red Eye Crew and the creation of his association "We can give foundation” which helps people in need; Francis Gibbs, director of the Collectivité's financial department, was congratulated for his diligence and diligence; Patricio Carty alias Blade was recognized for his career as a cyclist and his commitment to the field of sport thanks to his association "The Sandy-Ground bike club". The president of the Collectivité praised their commitment and the example they have become for the young generation of Saint-Martin. Vincent Berton, delegate prefect of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, joined Louis Mussington, as well as all the other officials working for the Collectivity or the State to celebrate the French national holiday as it should be. The official ceremony continued on the Marigot Sea Front with speeches and speeches. A reception was organized to close the morning. The afternoon was no less busy. The entertainment offered was a delight for children and adults. Athletes had a great time with the various races planned. Music also had a big place on this day with the performances of MC Phoxx, DJ Prince, The Gunslingers, Jolly Boys, SEE5 in the early afternoon, and those of Mad Crew, Monsura Dance group, Tamillia, Rhythm & Groove and Youth Waves Band who created an atmosphere worthy of their reputation at the end of the evening. The demonstrations of Funtopia Dance Fire, walkers on stilts, dazzled the public. And since July 14 wouldn't be July 14 without fireworks, the one fired from the Sea Front at 21 p.m. was eagerly awaited by the population. Seven minutes of light show in a somewhat cloudy sky but with a magnificent finale.

The party went on for a good part of the night with a string of smiles on the faces of the participants.  _VX
