On May 28, three men from Nicaragua went to the partly Dutch police station to denounce the conditions under which they worked. It turns out that they are hired on the French side, so the Sint Maarten police call the prosecutor on the French side and the border police (PAF) who thus recover the case.
An investigation is then opened by the French authorities in order to check whether the labor code is respected, in particular to see if contracts in good and due form have been signed, if salary slips are issued each month, etc. The PAF will also check whether the men concerned have residence permits and valid work permits in Saint-Martin.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the men arrived two months ago to work on reconstruction sites. (more details on www.soualigapost.com)
